Replacing Airbag Steering Wheel advice

I am replacing my airbag steering wheel on my 1990 S2 with a Momo. I bought an airbag bypass, but not sure where to hook it up. The plug is sticking out of the steering wheel mount and doesn’t allow the Momo adapter to sit flush, or allow the wires to go through the tunnel to put the bypass on. Any thoughts recommendations on being able to do this? Do I need to further remove more of the steering column to get at the airbag circuit wires like I have in picture number two. Thanks for your help!

Get the non-airbag clockspring from an '86 or so. That is the only way you are going to get your horn to work, assuming this is a street driven car. There are many threads on here related to this conversion.

Put the resistor into the yellow connection for the airbag unit deeper into the dash (behind the clockspring).

I did that job last year and posted about it here.

https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/1161872-smaller-diameter-airbag-steering-wheel.html

I found some very detailed posts online somewhere, maybe on a different forum. I needed to remove the turn signal assembly to make the modification to fit the horn wiper piece and it was tricky finding all the fasteners to remove it from the dash.

Ok, thanks to both for your advice. TheSecondChris; let me make sure I’m understanding what you did. Did you replace the airbag Clockspring with a backdated one or modified the airbag one? Will just replacing the turn signal stalk provide what I need? Just a bit confused. Thanks

Ps: replaced my stock wheel on my 911 was a piece of cake w/o an airbag, and trying to figure if I need to purchase an early model Clockspring.

The non-airbag one is a copper tab. You need to either modify your existing stalk unit, or get a backdated one.

I broke the job into two steps. First, just install the wheel and deal with the airbag warning light. Second, get the horn working.

What airbag bypass did you get? The resistor one? It goes across the two small terminals in the airbag connector, mimic'ing its resistance.

That's all I needed when I replaced my steering wheel with a Momo (well, and its adapter, plus I needed the service computer to reset the light. I added a ground ring and power wire and the the horn works fine...?

I just used a single bare 3 ohm resistor.
