relocating battery in 924.. legal?
hello,
when springtime comes around, i am striping the interior of my 924 for the track. i was thinking of relocating the battery to a box behind the passenger seat. what i would like to know is if this is legal? i know of A LOT of cars with batteries in that area, but i want to make sure that i won't be doing something illegal or something that will not pass state inspection. i am going to put the battery in a box, and it will be bolted to a plate that goes through the floor of the car. then i will have straps that hold the battery down. thanks for any info you can offer! obin |

As long as it is securely fastened like you said you won't have a problem passing inspection down here in PA. I would guess it is the same up in NY.

Probably need to say legal in what. It's still in a "passenger area" in the back floorboard, but a boat type battery box thats covered and vented may be OK for some sanctionimg bodies. Don't know about DOT stuff.

My 1983 Renault Fuego Turbo had the battery in a well in the hatch area (this is original factory setup). It was covered by a little hinged door under the hatch floor carpet, and wasn't "sealed" in any other way from the passenger compartment. My 1971 VW beetle had the battery under the rear seat, also freely vented to the passenger compartment. I had no trouble passing NJ inspection.
