Cost of Replacing Motor Mounts
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of the labor time involved in replacing both the engine mounts on an early '85?

Hey kobe...about 4 hours from experience...I don't know what the book says....Alot of mechanics charge by what the book says they can charge....I did them myself...If you have jack stands, a floor jack, and can turn a wrench...you can do them yourself...Go to http://porsche-944-garage.tripod.com/ ...click on 944 Garage shop manual...and scroll down to Motor Mount Replacement...It gives decent instructions...good luck!, Cus

I just did mine 2 weeks ago and it took a little over 4 hours. It's not that difficult a job to do yourself.

my mechanic charged me $360 with parts

Thanks guys, I don't really have access to a garage or tools, so I'll just have to settle with spending some cash at the shop.

In the most recent issue of Grassroots Motorsports (April, 2001 issue), there's an article on their Project 944. They describe the process and give some good tips.
Actually, it's not a bad article on general 944 maintenance. -Z. |
I just replaced mine last week, what a diifference. I purchased the mounts from Zimms in Texas for $79 a piece(2). The book time that my mechanic said is 3 hours. I paid a total of:
$79(2)+$56(3)=$326 |
While we are on the motormount topic, does anyone have those solid mounts from Kokeln or does anybody have anything to say bout'em. Im also in the market for some new mounts and was checkin these out. I will be runnin a street setup for awhile and possibly get into racing in the not to distant future when I replenish my piggy bank. How stong are these 6061 mounts? How much harder will the ride be? Are they strictly racing mounts? I have a 951. Any thoughts opinions appreciated.

Hey Kobe-944,
CCus knows what he's talking about he helped me through mine...although he says 4 hours...i'm relatively inexperienced and had to refer to the book alot and found myself under the car for a total of 9 hours...ugh...although it was worth it.... the mounts you can buy at an average of $79 a piece but if your really smart you'll check ebay out, there is a company based out of florida that usually has a reserve price for $89 dollars for the pair and add shipping and handeling...and make sure you get the upgraded solid rubber ones..
