Spongy - like you have to put a lot of pressure on the pedal to get the car to stop

I would check your brakes and make sure you have good fluid and a bled system before tearing out master cylknder

Press on the pedal and feel the seals leak fluid as your foot sinks to the floor. If you don't have the ATI (you do have the Girling) the rebuilt unit is cheap and 45 min install!

I bleed my brakes after every track day using SRF. ATE is the MC. I am replacing the lines and pads to see if that cures it first then look at MC and Booster. The last MC I had go bad the pedal was gone but that was not on a Porsche so I needed to see how ours react when taking the plunge! When it comes to brakes I NEVER REBUILD- always new! But thanks! Cheers....Sman

The MC in my 914 is getting flaky and I can describe that feeling but the 914 does not have power brakes, so the effect is probably more pronounced.

Most of the time the brakes are very firm but every so often the pedal gets softer, not soft like air in the lines, no fluid loss and the softness cannot be "pumped up". It kind of feels the same as boosted brakes when it goes soft. After a while of being soft, the pedal will get firm again.
