What would Darth Vader do

I will changing out my brake master cylinder soon and I was wondering if I should replace my stock brake lines for the stainless types. Does anyone have any experiences on changing over, good or bad? I have a 1981 924 N/A. All replies welcome.

They provide nice firm feel, I'd go for it.
Make sure they're DOT approved. The main difference is usually just the length. DOT ones are longer, so they have more material to absorb the movement with. (steel doesn't like to flex much!). While you're at it, get some ATE super blue racing brake fluid. Not too expensive, yet only a few degrees from Formula 1 spec brake fluid! Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

do brakes feel soft in the pedal because of the type of brake lines you use? My friends parents just bought him a Hyundai Elantra... the car scares the hell out of me. Neither the steering wheel or the brake pedal offer ANY feedback at all. He notices this too. Would having him install steel brake lines help (for the brakes)? Any suggestions on what he could do about steering? I know this isnt the place to ask about Hyundias but I dont think there really is one, and you all seem very knowledgable about cars in general.
thanks -pete |

If you do decide to put in stainless lines be very careful in how your route them. As the braided lines will eat through anything soft that they come into contact with.
As for the steering on the haundie, Its probably a result of an overachever power steering pump and possible a steering shock. I'm not sure if these can be fixed. Possibly underdriving the powersteering pump might help. ------------------ If you drive it, Race it Dave '87 944 |

I doubt putting stainless lines in your hyundai would help anything (if you could even find them!)
I have several friends who work in design engineering departments of several major car manufacturers. They tell me that soft spongy brakes, and soft steering with no feedback is designed into many cars. The vast majority of the driving public likes it better that way. Us "car guys" are in the insignifigant minority. There are very few manufacturers (Porsche being one of them) who cater to the driving enthusiast. Everyone else caters to the masses. (you sell more cars that way) |
