Low oil Pressure !!!! HELP !!!!!
 

My oil pressure gauge has been non op for about a month (right after a heavy rain). I wasn't worried the oil was there and the idiot light still worked (two diffrent circuts but the same sender. After washing my car tonight I now have a semi blinking oil pressure light.. at idle it's somtime on full sometimes off... off idle it blinks randomly.
so how do I check the pressure.. should I just go ahead and replace the sender or ?

check the sender and the connections...might be the possibility of a short, check your oil pressure needle when it is on, is it in the middle? or between 2 and 3 if its an early model 944??? if so than thats the standard area, if not than you may have a leak in the oil system or a faulty oil pump
check for leaks, especially in the balance shaft and cam areas if you wanna pop off those covers

Sorry Officer, my bag of crack fell and while trying to reach it my gun got wedged in between the gas and the brake causing me to speed insanely.

Ditto on what Euro said. You might just need to clean the sensor. It can get corroded. You can check this by turning your ignition to the on position with the engine off. Your oil pressure guage if functioning properly should peg at 5 bar. If not its probably the sensor.

ok it's a 86 944NA should have said that.. as soon as the car is turned on the needle the needle pegs to five and stays there. that help any...

Try changing the oil. Sometimes it gets thinner with blow-by.

Hi Matt One thing not mentioned is to torque the crank bolt if this bolt is not tight enough then the oil pump gear will not turn as fast as the crank and this also can cause low or no oil pressure ..dont drive the car until you find the problem ...and change the oil and filter........Stan

Hey Guys, I guess it is a common problem for the oil pressure meters to break in early models ... mine pegs at 5 and then just stays at 5 all the time, I've never seen it move in the 2.5 years I've owned the car (84 944) ... what can I do to fix it?

However you *MIGHT* have a faulty sensor too. Let me guess, you turn the ingition to ON, and the needle jumps to 5BAR, and stays there. The engine doesn't even need to be running?

PROBLEM FIXED
bad sender. this thing is a ***** to replace had to make a super stubby wrench to get it off and put the new one on... Bad thing I broke the post for the gague sender... it will cost me 72 bucks to get the next one... by the way if your gague is pegged at 5 it should be the sender if it's on the bottom it's prob the gauge
