Cool Obin converts another VW driver

Hi guys,

Im new to the porsche scene and Im looking to buy a 951. I just sold my 1990 VW Corrado today so I can get serious about buying a 951. I will be attending the PCA Swap in hershey PA where I hope to purchase one with Obins help. I usually hang out at www.vwvortex.com but look forward to learning from this board too.

Tom

I have ditched all efforts for looking for a Corrado G60 in good condition. I have removed every link to anything remotely related to Corrado, save the VWVortex forums.

My friend just purchased a Corrado and that has deterred me from buying a Corrado. I just wanted a car that would be unique and when he bought when with almost no knowledge about it, that turned me away.

Now I know that 944 has been produced in fairly large numbers, it's the aura of Porsche that attracts me to the 951. I just figured that ALL the mods that I would want done to a Corrado was feeble in that I could buy a Porsche 951 for $8K and have an automobile that would be faster than any Corrado(save VR6T04B's monstrous C), as well as handle better due to it's 50/50 weight distribution and rear wheel drive layout.

Hmm...$8K for a perfectly good 951...or $5K+14K in mods for a Corrado that won't be nearly as fun as a stock 951?

That's just what I was thinking. That and the fact I won't have to worry about the sunroof as much as I would with the Corrado

SSHHH!!!! Don't tell everyone how great 951's are! I'm having a hard enough time finding one for me!

BltByKrmn, let me say how sorry I am that you know Obin! Seriously though, he knows his stuff, and he won't lead you wrong. He seems to be a perfectionist, so if it passes his test, it should be a great car.

Welcome to the board!

woah i drove a 2001 gti vr6 the other day.... yikes those are monsters - well it seemed alot faster than a 944 and had excelent pick up at highway speeds it was the first time i had driven in a LONG time so i did terrible ( the salesman was scared to death) but i must say awesome car... and it held its tracks well.. and BRAKES WOW! i love those felt just like then 944 brakes... although i think i broke something - when i floored the car it took off like a bat outta hell and i was expecting noise but NOTHING it was all the tires (LOUD) but it was at redline for a LONG time. then i took it on the highway and back to the dealership and I wanted to see the engine and it smelled BAD and there was coolant flowing into the expantion tank ( it was pink!?) and i opened the oil cap and there was white smoke pouring out!? my dad suggested blow by but i dont think it was... so if i messed something up i will tell you i am very displeased with the engine of this car! also anyone know the 0 - 60 for this car? thanks!

What does that tell you when someone starts trying to compare a car that is 10-15 years newer? Some coolants do come in pink, just so you know.

I hate to say it but I have seen a lot of riced out VWs lately. It's kind of ridiculous. The GTI's are nice but i think for the money a 1.8T could be more productive.

EJ chill... its not your car... Rollins I know what you mean [about the rice VW's] BUT about the 1.8T there's a lot of pro's and cons, like the VR6 is heavier BUT you can get some sick mods to get it upto around 350 hp, but it will not handle as well as the 1.8t and you will get less mpg, and the 1.8t will be lighter, you will get better gas mileage and you can get around 250 hp and will handle a hell of a lot better...

Yeah. I like the 1.8L turbo also...oh crap. I OWN ONE! hehe. So maybe i'm a little biast toward mine =p. BTW... my 1.8L is faster than a 944 N/A. No question. At least 0-60. Handles well, and has AMAZING braking.
