RaF944 and anyone else, if you think street racing is cool, take a look at this... guess we all know what the family will be doing this week...
Teenager Killed in Drag Race A San Jose teenager was killed over the weekend in a crash police say was the result of a high-speed drag race. Daniel Tobin died Sunday afternoon when his car careened out of control on Blossom Hill Road. Police arrested the driver of a second car at the scene. Twenty-one-year-old Craig Amador of Mountain View was released pending an investigation. He could face charges of vehicular manslaughter. In San Francisco, a similar accident could result in criminal charges. Three teenagers were drag racing on 41st Avenue last week when one collided with a MUNI streetcar. The passenger in the car was killed. The police inspector in charge of the case is still combing through the evidence. He says when his report is complete, he'll take it to the district attorney's office. |

And for you people who say "oh well i'm a better driver than those ppl" You are being stupid. Who knows when you are going down a street at 110 and a semi truck PULLS OUT IN FRONT OF YOU! You might be the best driver in the world..doesn't mean others are. I'm guilty of having some fun, but is it really worth it?

People might think it it cool, and gives them a rush to street race. That is thinking about themselves and not everyone else on the road. If you want to be a real man and race against real cars why dont you just get your lisence and auto cross, instead of being a coward and trying to race ****ty stock civics. Prove yourself on the track, not the ROAD!!!!!!

that really is bad. teens think they are good drivers, too. plus, as teens they feel practically indestructable. some learn the hard way that it isn't so. well, i guess in the extreme cases they don't really learn...
i wonder where on blossom hill road he crashed...man, he did it in the daylight, too...i used to live right off of bh road. i went to blossom hill elementary! hey por, you in san jose?

First off, these days I save speed for the track not the street. However for people who do habitually street race I doubt news of someone dying while street racing will make any difference in their behavior. I saw this thread and thought, "again?" I think it's pretty well known that people, even teenagers, die from street racing. It's not like I nor many other people on this board haven't heard MANY similar stories. It's sad though. I too wonder where on Blossom hill. I live in Santa Clara.

small world blackfoot and Yarg, I used to work at Kaiser Santa Theresa hosptial off Blossom by the IBM plant....anyway people should either take a trip to the mourge or go to a funeral where the family memebers are left to suffer from the stupidity of some kid/adult trying to win a race and got himself killed......just a thought......

I will reiterate earlier comments about a difference between street racing and road racing, and saying there is a time and place to race on the road, never a time and place to race on the street. This obviously was not the time, nor the place, and previously said individual is dead. We won't have to worry about him anymore.

Well i am glad to hear the people that say "save it for the track"
Thats my motto, (and i am a teen though), i never drag race, its stupid, very very uncontrollable, there are people that don't have lights on at night, drive in front of you, pull out of gas stations that you didn't know was there, etc. I do however, take cloverleaf turns and other turns fast when no one is in front of me or up ahead. |

I used to live in San Jose, near this area up until about a year ago. I still work in the general area.
In the early to mid 80's I used to race my GTO, Camaro, El Camino, 240Z, and Corvette on Blossom Hill Rd., Santa Teresa Blvd., Coleman Ave., Almaden Expressway (in the direction of "New" Almaden) - you name it. A couple of times I came REALLY close to a bad accident, and once was involved in more where I went airborn, and wound up 270 degrees from the direction I was racing. More times I was lucky enough to bolt from the cops. Too bad the same didn't happen to these guys that were racing... Dean |

yeah, those areas you mentioned all have long straights but only one little, minor problem: loads of people, esp. bhill & santa teresa!
when i see kids caught by the cops, they always think they're unlucky, but i say that's about the best thing that could happen to them, even if they're too dumb or juvenile to realize it.

I just want you to be aware of the dangers and the consequences. My god, are you so stupid that you think being in an oncomming traffic lane is safe. Oh ya, no car's etc... but you were still in the lane. Father figures, not me, go cry to the mechanic who's working on your mom ... Z-man has the right idea by trying to channel your speed interests into structured "safe" events... take this as an opportunity to grow. I'm done with you on this subject but by the volume on this post, others are not. Don't like the heat, don't get into the pan. Shanun... man, you have some strange and perverse ideas.... |

RaF944. I'm sorry if you think I have "said something about your mother... that is not nor is it ever my intention. try this instead... if you want to better understand why folks are down on you about street racing, go ask your mechanic friend that gives you the great deals because he is a friend of your mothers...
Again, sorry if you have taken things the wrong way.. |

The purpose of this post was and is to bring to light recent events in my area where teen's, involved in street racing, encountered a loss of live along with other serious legal repercussions and consequences. The idea was to put a loss of human life into the picture. It was my intention to push at RaF944 regarding this. I have included him in my intro simple because he had expressed a very casual attitude about the results and consequences. For the most part, this posting has had good results... we have heard each other opinions regarding street racing and been honest about some of the things we have done in our past. Along with this, some good information about car events (z-man) has been presented in an effort to channel some of the racing urges. If in this effort, I have offended anyone on this board regarding my post, I am sorry. If we can stay with the topic great, other wise, lets let this post die... just like "Daniel Tobin" or the passenger in SF ...
