question about this board
can't remember but, when you first sign up on this board and register, do you have to post a new topic or question first for your information to be accepted? got someone who's having problems; after registering and logging on he can't reply to someone's post.

From what I can remember you don't, unless it's changed. They haven't gotten an email?

yes, they did....i believe he's doing everything right. each time he goes to reply to someone it asks him to sign in, which he does, then it says hello, you are signed in(blah, blah, blah) and then bounces him right back to the error message saying he is not signed in.

I think you have to respond to the email by going to a link to verify that the email was sent to the right person. Did they do that?

i'm not sure but they are reading these posts most likely. i guess they will need to change their browser under the Tools option if it is Internet Explorer right?

one should always be able to read a post regardless of their cookie settings
if you have the latest version of IE then you goto Tools, Internet Options, then Privacy set Privacy to the lowest and try then if it works, i would raise it incrementally it should work all the way up to medium-high (if you have an older version, medium-high may not be available and only medium) |

any other possible explanations? seems kind of weird that it accepts their log-in attempt and then bumps them back to the log-in page. just below where i am typing it says Forum Rules....and it says something about HTML being ON.........could his be OFF?

Does he open the page from the link that was sent to his email?? If so just close it and open another page and access the boards that way. I used to have a similar problem. Every time I would try and respond on the page that I opened with the e-mail link i would get the same symptoms you are discribing.

when you log-in you are obviously sending data to pelican stating that you have a proper username and pass. after this occurs, Pelican sends you a cookie (packet of data) that is saved in your computer so that everytime you do something within pelican forum that requires login, this cookie tells pelican that you are a member and already logged-in. now if your browser is set to reject most/all cookies then this packet of data (cookie) is never saved on your comp therefore wheneve you request to do something on pelican that requires login information (such as posting in the forum) you are asked to login again. that is why one can read posts but not reply or compose one of your own cause reading posts requires no login information. that is also why if this cookie is accepted (like on your comp and mine), you are never prompted to login again. |

Might also be a ground problem. Just don't drop that bolt down in the flywheel's TDC hole, that would cause a serious Internet Explorer shutdown.
