your new '44 looks GOrgeOus... besides fixing the clutch problem and the schedule maitenance you mentioned, do you plan on modding the car or just keep stock?

Well dj-yen, you have asked the one question that I have no real answer too.

It is very tempting to punch this car up. My boss is restoring a TVR and building it to the point where he will not be able to handle it. My friend that got me looking at Porsches has a built 911 (same one that point this forum out to me). Many thanks to him!

However, my “dream” for this car is, when my daughter (now six years old) graduates for collage, I will had her the keys to a 1983 Porsche 944 factory original (as best as I can do), and say something corny like “I hope you like the ride!” :D

Call me crazy, you won’t be the first, but you have to admit, it would really be sweet to pull it off!

And I have to say, in six days of owning this car, I really don’t think I will be able to drive anything but a Porsche from now on!

Congrats! Looks like the color is same as mine, Kalahari Beige. I love it. Nice Fuchs also! Welcome to the board.

hey man, the porsche i own is an '87 porsche 944 NA that i got from uncle. when i was 13, my uncle purchased this car brand new. (yes, do the math... now you know how old i am  )
this was the first time i ever saw a porsche up close and was astounded. my uncle took me out for a drive and showed off what that car was capable of. he hit abt 120mph down the interstate before his radar detector started to go off violently but not as violently as he braked to 55mph just before we passed the cop ;)
needless to say, i fell in love with that car. i still have pictures of me when i was 13 posing with the car with the nerdiest grin :D
16 years later, i am now its new owner and this proves that dreams really do come true.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/boldblue.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/boldblue.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif

i am sure your daughter will love her porsche and by that time, i'm sure you'll have another to replace it just for yourself

Car looks sweet. Where in Ohio are you? You should join the PCA and come to a drivers ed. Mid-Ohio track is close by.

Also- don't wait until the winter to do the timing belt! When it breaks, you are out serious $$$. Do it now.

Do a search for broken timing belts, it happens all the time. You have no maintainence records, it could theoretically be on a very very old belt. I'd hate to see that beauty joining the order of the bent valve. Get the belt changed, then no worries! I did mine recently, and just the piece of mind is worth it.

That's a nice looking early model. Don't mod it, just maintain it. If you can't keep the mod-bug down, that what 951s are for. (Where's Todwic? Can I hear a He!! Yeah!) :D

Seriously, don't take me seriously. Enjoy your car and welcome to the board.

Now go change your timing belt!

Some1else 08-21-2003 06:48 PM

Well now you all have me totally paranoid about the timing belt, and I’m half afraid to drive the car!

However, it has to make it to Tuesday. Then I will have my winter car, and I can get started on the timing belt, water pump, and all new fluids. Perhaps I will be able to sleep easy once that’s done.

If anyone has any “does, or don’ts” on changing the timing belt, please let me know? Also, I take it I should change the balance shaft belt at the same time. :D

Thanks for the info rammstein, I’ve already checked the web site, and will be joining by next spring. I have heard about the Mid-Ohio drivers Ed, and really look forward to being there. My brother-in-law has an Alpine Tiger, and is real big on the classic races there. FYI, I’m in Kent, and work in Akron.

P.S. Worry not dj_yen, you are younger then me!;)
