Ok, after dropping the starter saw two 1 1/2" round holes in bellhousing adjacent the flywheel opening. One faces rear and looks like it's a spot for a slave cylinder. Possible, as my car is a re-engined automatic. The other faces towards driver's side. Oriented in direction of rotation. Looks like it it a vent?
sorry no pics thanks

the hole facing the reaer could be the hole for the slave cylinder, thats where it is on a manual. the hole facing the drivers side is possible the clutch inspection hole, or torque converter inspection hole in your case i guess

thanks, I think you are right. I'm capping both holes with plastic body plugs to keep crud out. I can see the rubber trans damper through inspection hole
1/2 way through my 1st belt & waterpump change, so far so good
