has anyone else had the problem of the small nipple at the top of the radiator on the drivers side breaking off? if so any common fixes? for now i siliconed the crap out of it.

Yes. That fitting is prone to crack where the fitting meets the wrench flats. I have broken two of these fittings just trying to replace the hose.
If memory serves this part is about $11.00 from a dealer. Get a new fiber washer as well.

Silicone will only work for a short time. You will need to replace it with a new piece
