Hi there,
I just wanted to know about what happened tonight. I took the Porsche for the first time of the season and after around 1 hour, I saw a brand new Impreza Wrx right beside me. Considering that the car was still tired of its winter storage and that I only had 6 months old ordinary gaz in the tank, I hesitated... Well why not? I floored it a bit to let him know that I wanted to see what he had under the hood, I slowed down to about 30 mph and I immediatly saw him trying to do a fly bye. Well in about 3 seconds, I was around 4 carlenghts in front of him and then my Turbo got tired at about 6000 rpm, he stayed right there and he gave up. What a rush! I like that 951. Did yo play with one of those WRX recently? Ho by the way, is it normal if my turbo pression gauge shows around 2 bars for some seconds at full acceleration? Can the gauge be wrong? If not, I'll have to set that manual boost controller (I bought the car recently). See ya, and sorry for my bad english! ------------------ Porsche 944 Turbo 1986 ·Stroker kit (2.8L conversion) ·Manual boost controller |

Relax Neal! That's awesome! Those Subarus look kind of bad ass(200 HP, 4 wheel drive, etc)....I'm glad to see you taught him what a real car is all about
.Im just sick of the last 20 years of Japanese copying of German cars....its to the point of absurdity...have you seem the new Lexus LS 430 -- nice car, but total copy of a Benz S class...kind of a joke ------------------ |

I don't advocate racing myself, but I do advocate occasional, "spirited driving".

NZ is a jap car haven cos of our import laws. We don't have tough emissions restrictions, etc. They basically just have to be safe. Tests for safety are vry thorough. Lately we've had trouble with flood damaged vehicles coming in from Japan that have been 'cleaned up,' and also cars that have been clocked. We also have no restrictions on power output like Japan (276hp mutual agreement btn Jap manufacturers) and UK (?not sure, but I think remember hearing sumthing). We get models of Imprezas that aren't allowed in Japan even. Theres one type of impreza (very few tho) that run at a stock 340bhp.
Jap cars are so popular here cos besides Holden (part of GM) and Ford, and 2nd hand Euro cars, which are imported thru Japan ususally anyway, all there are are Jap cars. The market for them here are huge and so is their aftermarket upgrades. Theres a few cars, Nissan GTiR Pulsars (I think u guys call them Sunnys?) at my work that are just under 310hp each (modded. If you guys want to have a look at whats on offer here check out www.autopoint.co.nz U may find a few cheap Euro spec porsches up for grabs! Just for reference, one NZ dollar is equal to .46 USI wouldn't want to crash in a (tinfoil)Jap car tho, thats for sure [This message has been edited by mAd924 (edited 05-11-2001).] |

"Stroker kit and manual boost"! What if you met that Impreza on a rally course. I'll stick with my original statement.
As Ahmet always says, "It's the driver". I always wondered what was a Commadore. I have the Speedvision channel and they show the Down Under racing series. Aloha, Neal |

Here in the UK a WRX Impreza could have anything between 220 and 276 bhp. We get quite a lot of Jap (grey) imports with dodgy history and non euro standard weather proofing.
Before getting my 951 I had a stock UK spec 218bhp Impeza turbo (1995) as a company car. Horendous interior, but a very good car. Amazing handling and very quick. I wasn't sure how the 944 would compare. I tried a 2.7 944. It was very nice to drive, with the power coming in from very low down and a great feel, but it was significantly slower than my Impreza. Then I tried what is now my '89 951. On paper they are both 0-60 in around 5.5s, but the 951 is really a heck of a lot quicker than the Impreza (except in the wet!) and a totally different driving experience. Much more satisfying overall than the Subaru. That being said, the Impreza has a lot going for it if you have a family and a load of luggage etc. and still want to indulge in "spirited" driving. I loved it ! Happily I have a V6 ST24 Ford Mondeo to use as my "hack" so I can indulge myself and have a 951 too ![]() ------------------ NickB '89 951 |

I drove a couple of WRX's a weeks ago. I was very, very excited to look into them because I am into the idea of Rallying. Before I got to drive, the dealer drove a while until a switching spot. On the way, he was driving with spirit. You could tell he thought these things are bad ass, but I guess if you only sell Forresters and Legacys, then it is pretty bad ass. When it was my turn to drive, I pushed the car a little. In a couple of full throttle accelerations, I was very disappointed. The car has quite a bit of lag, and for almost 14 psi of boost, it sure doesn't feel that impressive. Through the turns, the car definately is not nearly as well balanced as our P-cars. The AWD was nice and would be cool to have on a slippery track(read: any rally race). Overall, my excitement waiting for the WRX to arrive in the States had met a doom the day I drove them. My 951 would easily take a similarly driven WRX any day of the week(on pavement of course). While a fun little four door, it doesn't even make a good practical family car because the back seat is so small. I am sure that I would feel differently had I driven a real(non-US) WRX.
Some interesting facts about the WRX: -Turbo is only driven off of two cylinders -Transmission is only rated for 270HP(according to the technology guy at the dealers. He said that you can upgrade for a few thousand, no thanks) -They look sweet with the BBS rims Dave |
