You probably have some positive camber. I recommend adjusting to -1 to -1.5 degrees.
Do you drive spirited, or autocross, or drive on the track? (IE: Many fast turns?) -Z.

Yes, it could be the original OEM shocks but they must be in very bad condition to cause so much wear. You can notice that you have worn front shocks if you get a lot of understeer.
However, as others suggested the allignement is out and needs reduing. You may get away with just getting the front allignement done. What about the rear tyre wear. Is that OK. I get a uneven wear at the rear on my S2. One of the tires wears out quicker then the other one ant it last about 7K miles while the other one will last 10K. Any suggestion/explanations why this can happen. |

OK,
The backs are fine - like new, the fronts (replaced at the same time) are like the backs on the insides (normal wear) the outsides of the fronts are worn down more, same amount both sides. The shocks are a little bit worn cause the car bounces a bit at the front, but not really any understeer. - am replacing shocks soon. Yes, I do drive quite spirited (is there any other way?) but i don't screech round bends, I corner quite smoothly. I will get the alignment checked on saturday, Can someone tell me how to check/adjust the camber? Thanks guys

I check the camber quickly, by parking the car on a flat surface, take a rectangular piece of wood like a bookshelf with one side as long as the tyre, place one side of the wood on the floor (make sure not to lift this side from the floor) with the other side pressed on perpendiculat to the middle of the tire/wheel. If you have negative camber you should only be able to press the wood on the low side of the tire. If you have positive camber you would only be able to press the wood on the upper side of the tire. You will need some negative camber at the front with a maximum of -1% to be acceptible without affecting the tire wear much. As a rule of thumb if you can adjust the distance from the edge wood to the upper rim to be about 0.5cm longer then the distance from the edge of the wood to the lower rim you will be OK. The same is valid for the rear.
To adjust the camber at the front is quite easy. You need to lift the front wheel up, remove the wheel, loosen the two strut to lower mounting nuts (the upper bolt is the adjuster), decide which way you want to adjust camber and start adjusting the bolt. Once you happy tighten the bolts up and fit the wheel. You will need to check the camber. If wrong you will need to do the adjustement again unfortunatelly. The cost of the standard S2 shocks is quite high (and as you said they are a bit soft) and I think with a bit of DIY work you can convert your old shocks to take KONI sport inserts with no extra cost. |

Most cars wear the front tires unevenly at the front, the real question is how quickly.
If your tyres have lasted 30K miles but are more worn on the outside, you have nothing to worry about. On the other hand if they've worn out in 5K miles you have a problem. As a guideline the ones on the front of my S2 are 25K old now and still have some wear left. These are bridgestone Re730s which are known for being quite hard. Yokohamas for example are a soft compound and will last much less. How old are your fronts? Mark
