Hit it with a hammer. Use a steel rod to get to it if necessary. A couple of direct whacks tends to break the treads loose. If they are destin to come loose.

nuts and bolts
use a nice tight fitting 6 point socket, use shortest combination of extensions, long handle ratchet or breaker bar, straight 90 degree approach with the wrench, and push it farther onto the head as you give it a quick, hard, fast unscrewing turn.( no offense, be sure you are going the unscrew way, counterclockwise) if you still cannot loosen it, whack it while the socket and extension are on it, no wimpy whacks allowed, very firm. if you do end up using heat, have wet rags around it and an extinguisher. you could refill with oil, and take it to a shop, they do this job everyday, and if it breaks, that is where you want the car when it breaks. great luck!! in my mind, its already loose!!

yeah i gave up on it. bashed the crap out of it a bunch of times, then i just got under it braced myself and pulled as hard as i could but the bold won and the socket lost... snapped a wall of it off.
ill just take it somewhere this time.

What you need is an impact driver - basically a spring loaded 1/2 inch socket drive. You'll find them in any bike shop that sells Japanese machines - they're essential for loosening cross-head steel screws in aluminium casings. They have a mutihead attachment that takes a variety of screw types / sizes. This can be removed allowing you to use a carbon steel socket (black coloured as used on airline wrenches in tyre shops).
Set the tool to it's anticlockwise setting and give it a damn good thump with a wooden or neoprene mallet. If that doesn't get it off I'd be bloody surprised.

Chuck in the towel, you mean? Yes there's always that option - and for many it's probably for the best.

Are you removing the drain plug? or an oil pan bolt??
Drain plug - get a longer wrench - longer the better - try applying heat, followed by PB blaster. (do NOT impact unless you have no other option - you can pull the threads on the oil pan) oil pan bolt - Heat, bigger wrench, PB blaster, impact as a last resort Torque to no more than 50NM (33ftlbs) when you put it back on - use a new crush washer, a little anti-sieze on the threads works wonders. Yeah! What AFJuvat says. Don't hit the drain pug.
Note: This is NOT a bolt.
