Rear seat weight savings - maybe less than you think

Hello All,

In searching this forum for some instructions on how to remove and replace the rear seats, I came across a few postings where the authors were seeking to reduce vehicle weight by removing the seats.

After removing mine I weighed them on the official bathroom scale and come up with something like 21 lbs.

By the way, I replaced my pinstripes with a set of leather ones (that now match the front leathers put in by the PO) and my interior decorating project has taken another significant leap forward.

Is this the seat top, or the whole thing?

Also, I assume this is the single (upper) rear seatback, since it's an early car?

you have one-piece rear seats which don't fold down?

No, he has the one piece seat back, that does foldown (or so I assume). At some point 944s switched over to the split rear seatback near the end of the model run, as on your (blackfoot) 968. The retrofit has been done to an earlier car before, hence my asking.

You are correct, the wieight included my single piece fold-down upper section combined with the lower section.

Try a better scale. At least try standing on the bathroom scale first by yourself to get your weight. Then reweigh yourself holding all the removed parts. The difference (higher math, I know, but stay with me now people) is the weight of the parts. Or just go to a bicycle shop, they usually have a decent scale that can weigh that low.
