Got waved at. TWICE!!
A guy pulled alongside me in a pre-85 944 and gave the "what's up".
Then, miraculously, another guy in a green Carerra 4 pulled up and gave the same!! Now THAT was unexpected. The three of us in one place like that. He had that cool electric raising spoiler. I think it was from the last generation of the air-cooled cars. But I don't know much about 911's. The only Porsche I have yet to get waved at from is Boxsters. What is up the Boxter drivers' butt? A Boxster IS a Porsche, right? |

So true!! From what ive seen, the majority of Boxter drivers seem to be stuck-up, nose in the air yuppies who wont give you the time of day!
They might as well be driving a Ricer.

I drove next to a 928 S4(??) for about a mile or so..... The guy didn't even look my direction.... I'd speed up and slow down next to him, admiring his very good looking car, and nothing. He kept his head glued straight ahead...
I've yet to receive a nod or wave, but then again, you hardly ever see many P-cars around.

"the majority of Boxter drivers seem to be stuck-up"
I think it is more of a case of them owning the cars as a status symbol, and therefore not knowing or caring about the Porsche wave... this doesn't necessarily make them stuck-up. I have met many a nice Boxster driver that knew nothing about Porsches

The director of my previous employment drove a Boxster - when I say 'drove' I mean he could make it go forwards and backwards. The finer points of Porsche handling and precision were wasted on him. He might as well have driven a hearse. He was (and still is) a smarmy bugger with the usual false smile and platitudes. Right after Christmas he canned twenty hard working, loyal employees so that he could surrepticiously replace them at £5,000 a year cheaper. A number of senior management staff drove Boxsters too, and like the director, were also all mouth and trousers. Fret not if you don't get a wave from a Boxster driver - in my experience they're pretty much all wankers.

I saw a guy in a 944, like mine, just newer ('87)... Was cool, he pulled up beside me and started asking questions (of course going down the road, I couldn't hear), so we pulled off and talked for a while. Was cool
![]() I told him he could get parts here.

in my experience, it is the drivers of 944 series cars, 914s, and older 911s that give you waves.

I talked to an older guy with a 996 a few days back (while driving down the road). He said he that he hoped I could keep the same spirit about Porsches as I get older. It was kind of a cool experience.
I've met a few guys with 944s, one had an early (black with fuchs...yummy) and the other had a 87 944 S (guards with phone dials). There's 2 more running around town that I've seen. A Carrera 4S or whatever it's called, and some guy (probably early to mid 20s) in a 928S4 (auto) who decided he was going to flip me off when I waved to him...

tons of p-cars down here. most of them newer ones that dont know how to drive but there are the few that do wave. first day i drove mine i was at an intersection and a guy in a red 944 stopped on the other side popped up his lights honked and waved i waved back and thought it felt cool at least someone on the road is nice. every 944 or 24 ive seen down here has waved. ive even gotten into a few road races with the new ones ( im not saying its safe or good!) and beat them.... thats when they stop waving...

I rarely wave. I respond to waves and wave only when eye contact is made. Around here, Porsches are rare but in recent memory I remember exchanging waves with a primered 914, 911 Targa, Boxster (same car multiple times) and a couple 944s.

I'm not much of a waver myself - we have a lot of Porkers in this end of the country - my arm would ache. I will politely reply to a wave but being a reserved Brit one doesn't wish to feel as if one's imposing.
I do feel a little annoyed when people flash their lights though - makes me quite cross having to slow down because one's not quite sure if they were warning you about plod setting up a speed trap ahead only to discover they were just being a bit chummy.

that's something i've noticed here in the states. people don't warn each other about cops on the road. in malaysia pple would flash each other if they knew there was a cop or a speed trap ahead.

i've never been waved at/waved to anyone, if they would make eye contact i might... but people seem to ignore you... i've run into boxsters and 911's, neither of which payed attention to ME
EDIT: i've seen people warn me about cops, and i've done the same...

whenever i go on a long trip on the highway it doesnt seem long before i pick up a "speeding buddy". its usually just one other car(but has been up to 8!) that is also speed at about the same speed i am or faster for a long stretch but not racing. if anyone has a radar detector they r usually up front and when they slow down so does everyone else. the concept here in florida is that if there is only 1 cop they are going to stop the person speeding the most or the person up front... but i have also seen this fail... they spotted a group of 6 of us once from the air... over a hill we went and what do you ya know, 6 Z28 sherifs cars waiting for us on the other side. 1 of the few times i didnt mind getting a ticket, if they are going to go through so much trouble to catch me they deserve to give it to me :-) only fair!

I flashed a female boxster owner today with my foglights. I was in back of her. I know I caught her attention, only for a second, then she didn't seem to car. She looked hot though. The first time I got an actual flash was from a 928, It didn't hit me that it was a flash until he drove past me and into the sunset, I was going to try and catch him up but he was too far ahead.

ive been waved at unprovoked by a guy in a boxster. it made my day. most dont wave back though. its alright though, not everyone's in the know. although around these parts you got a better chance at stangers waving back than other (read: crappy) parts of the country

I got a flash too... on the way back from picking my car up, in the middle of Atlanta, a limo passes me, then slows down...
They are a little in front of me and to the left, when two females pop up out of the sunroof, shirts up... eh...
