Thumbs up OT: Who plays what?

After seeing the drum posting under the other topic I was wondering what everyone plays? I've got a Fiesta Red Fender JagStang (currently for sale), and a Cinnamon Gibson Les Paul Junior Lite (55' reissue, very cool guitar), and a Fender Sunburst Precission bass with black pickguard. I also have been playing piano since about second grade. I took 5 or 6 years of lessons. I can play drums but its been a while. I used to have a Tama Rockstar series drumset but I sold it when I was 16 because I couldn't afford the new heads and cymbals I was needing.

I play guitar every now and then. I own one, but I rarely take the time to play it. As far as sports go I play ice hockey.

(Yes, this thread is totally off-topic, but it's noted in the subject so let's go to town!)

I have been playing bass somewhat seriously for about eleven years now, and casually fiddling around on guitar for even longer.

My main axe is a '91 Fender Jazz Bass Plus. I'm not a huge fan of most Fender basses, but this one has a lighter body, active electronics, and a satin maple neck and fretboard. I love the thing, and have yet to find another that's quite as versatile and just feels as good to play. I also have a mid-90's Yamaha fretless that I retrofitted with Bartolini pickups, and a short scale Fender Bronco bass that's fitted with piccolo strings right now.

My guitar is a Yamaha APX8A acoustic/electric. I searched for a long time to find something that I liked as much as my friend's Guild, and when I found the Yamaha on sale for under $500 it didn't take much thought to get it.

I use the stuff to do some home recording on my computer, mostly through a POD amp simulator with canned drum loops from various sources. Makes me think about writing a Porsche song to put that other dude from mp3.com to shame.

This thread reminds me of something I used to do when I used to have my old Ford Escort GT. I'd put my 18" cabinet in the trunk and hook up the head to a hefty power inverter, drive off somewhere, and rock out from the driver's seat! Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way I can fit the amp in my 944, but I may have to give it a try sometime...

I play a very nice yamaha 12 string acoustic-electric, a very crappy yamaha pacifica, and an even crappier korean strat. I used to have a nice stack amp with a marshall head, but I let my friend's band borrow it and the guitarist took it to college with him (400 miles away). I still have to beat his ass. I also rock the drums, but I have only had 1 drum set, a crappy beat up pearl export set with sabian symbols, and I left it in my friend's sister's basement, and it flooded and ruined the set, as well as my 3 week old pacifica guitar that I had to rebuild just to make it work again.

Thumbs up

'59 Fender P-bass, Early 90's J.B. Player fretless Jazz Bass copy. Been playing for about 20 years now. It took us a while to figure out that it would be easier to become brain surgeons, than it would be to get a contract. Kinda funny how the real world slaps you in the face sometimes!

Just a good old Guild 6 String, used to work at Ernie Ball so I had the first Music Man 6 string that Steve Morse worked out on. I think I traded it for auto parts or something. I used to play a saber bass in a band for awhile but it's gone too

I don't get the time to play that much anymore but I have an Ibanez 770 electric, a Guild acoustic and fabulous Ramirez classical guitar (where it all started!).
Music and Porsches seem to go together !!!

Cool

well, i USED to play electric guitar and bass like 10 years ago, but i stopped to play a ore intersting set of instruments:

two Technics SL-1200 mk II turntables
Peavey Dm-502 Production mixer

Roland MC-303 Groovebox
Casio RZ-1 Sampling Drumcomputer
Yamaha TG-33 Tone Generator
Yamaha DX-100 Synth
Roland SVC-350 Vocoder
Boss BX-800 Mixer
Effectron ADM-256 Delay Unit
Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive

all that neat stuff allows me to make some pretty cool live techno music. not the watered-down crap you hear on the radio. i play the darker, more sinister stuff you hear down the street from the Porsche factory in Stuttgart.

the equipment i USED TO have:
(just a small list)

Roland SH-101 Synth
Roland TR-626 Drumcomputer
Roland TR-707 Drumcomputer
Roland TR-808 Drumcomputer
Roland TR-909 Drumcomputer
Roland MKS-100 Sampler
Roland Juno 106 Synth
Mutron BiPhase Effects Unit
Korg Poly 61 Synth
Korg Poly 800 Synth
Yamaha DX-21 Synth
Simmons Rackmount Drum Synth
ARP Axxe Analog Synth

you know, if i kept all that stuff and traded it in today, i could buy a 944 turbo in cash up front.

damn.

oh well.

Guitar (have a Fender 6 and no-name 12 string), and piano/keyboards.

IMO, being able to play an instrument (or understanding music theory) allows me to appreciate music more: chord progressions, minors, diminished chords...etc. Plus when I hear a really difficult/complicated piece of music, knowing that it would be impossible for me to do the same, makes me say, "wow."

Just a thought:

I think that being able to play the drums has made me a better driver. The coordination required to use all four of your appendages to do different things all at once is very applicable to driving. I don't have to think about playing the drums or what each of my limbs is doing...I just think about the way I want it to sound and my body does the rest. Driving is the same way: I think about which way I want to go and the fastest way to do it, and I don't even think about what my appendages need to do. Just a thought, and a way to relate this topic to what this forum is all about.

I play WinAmp. You may think I'm just joking around here, but it's hard navigating through 75 Gigs of Mp3s to find just the right songs to follow each other and make a smoothe steady transition. Compounded to this difficulty is being able to hold the beer in the left hand, the mouse in the right, and still be able to sing along with each and every song I find, while downloading more and more music from the 'net.
