Question 944 S2 High Performance Intake/Airfilter (Any takers?)

Okay, all of you S2 owners out there. If you would like to have a High flow K&N setup that looks and fits like it was designed by the factory...pay attention. I emailed Albert Broadfoot of 'Broadfoot Racing' in Jacksonville, FL. He said he would design one for the S2 but he doesn't have an S2 in the shop right now. We need a Rennlister in the Gainesville, Jacksonville, Savanah area to take their car to Albert so he can get the measurements so he can design a system to fit under our nose panel (front apron the crest is attached to). I have seen Tom Boerger's setup and it's nice but this would be a little more finished product (no offense Tom, I was impressed with what you did). I am sure Tom would agree that he would have probably purchased a kit if one had been available before he created one himself. You can contact Albert at
AlbertGT3@aol.com

So come guys, here is your chance.
Regards,
Max

P.S.- I don't work for nor am I affiliated with Broadfoot Racing in anyway. I would take my car to Albert but I no longer live in Jacksonville, FL but Annapolis, MD.

Question

What kind of improvement do you expect?
I have a 90' 944 S2 Cab so I'm very interested.

Cool

Dadoo,
Nice car. Mine is white w/blue leather and top. I like your color combo better. My 911 had the same color combo that you've got. I don't know how much performance improvement to expect. Most likely a more free flowing intake will move the torque curve up 200-350 rpm (gueesing here) and allow the engine to rev a little more freely. One of the biggest improvements is a life time filter and almost no chance of hydro-locking the engine. The S2 has a very low intake (about 6-7 inches from the ground) that lends itself to water ingestion. If you went charging through a large puddle you stand a good chance of hydro-locking your engine. Very Very bad ju ju. Does serious damage. This intake system would eliminate the stock air box and go to an MSDS style intake plumbing with the conical filter safely tucked away beneath the front apron (where the airbox is now). If you combined it with a vented nose panel you would have a sweet setup. I hope this helps.

despite owning only a 944 NA, I know you can do a cold air intake on a 944S2. I know of some guy who got the vented nose panel for his S2 and he put a cone filter behind it, and use the stock hole to the AFM to run the piping to it. actually gained about 4-6 HP too.

What do you guys think about just removing the air box from the S2 and just putting a K&N cone filter on it? The cone would sit under the nose piece and just connect to the end of the hose where the air box would connect. We could just measure the diameter of the hose that the air box connects to and just find a K&N cone that fits. What do you guys think?

Allldi you need to have some sorta way of channeling cool air there. The stock 944 S2 airbox is positioned so that it is like a RAM air. if u can put a cone right behind the nose panel, and buy a vented panel. then u got urself more horsepower.

Why do need a vented panel. Just replace the stock box with a K & N and pipe it to the air flow sensor or MAF. Works great!!!

I've been trying to think of a way to get a
similar set-up on my 85.5 N/A. While I was looking around I ran across this guys site. Its worth a look for S2 people.
boeger.golden-tech.com
Go to the "modifications" button. Good Luck

That's Tom Boerger's site. The one I made reference to in the opening post of this thread? You shouldn't be scratching your head trying to figure out how to accomplish a "similar setup" for your 85.5 NA. Many, Many companys make a 'bolt on' modification for your car. Broadfoot racing, MSDS, etc...

While I agree that a vented nose panel would help out a lot, setting up a filter the way I suggested would still get air channeled to it via the top slit in the front end that channels air to the stock set-up. I like Tom's modification a lot but I don't know if I want to go to the trouble of fabricating extra piping like he did. So I was thinking about it a couple days ago and I think it would work pretty well to just stick a cone filter on the end of the piping where the air box would usually mount.
