help: where to buy chain tensioner?

Anyone know a reputable place online to buy the chain tensioner assembly 944_105_049_01? As long as I'm doing the job myself, I thought I'd replace the whole thing and not just the top pad. But the Porsche dealer wants ~$360, so the ~$25 top pad is looking better and better...

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

All due respect, but I disagree. There is a top pad and a bottom pad and as far as I know you can only purchase the top. I assume the bottom wears also.

I replaced the whole thing myself and it was definitely not difficult at all. I get all my stuff from either Pelican, Paragon, or Zim's - can't remember from which I got this part though. I would recommend checking any of them. Make sure you also get the crush washers and the j-tube.

Unless you are on a very tight budget, I would just do it right and then not worry about it for another 100k.

I'm with you, Grant. Just bought the parts locally (CT) from an outfit that gives 20% discount on genuine porsche parts. But I had to say no the the j-tube at $127 list. Just seemed greedy.

Try Ian's EuroParts in Pompano Beach, FL....www.944online.com. We do a lot of business with them. They are super nice people and usually have the part to us within the next few days after we order it.
