87 944s A/C Prob

I'm new to these and have a 87 944s that keeps blowing the a/c fuse #29 7.5amp. I unplugged the single wire coming off the A/C Coil and it still pops it. The control lights just will blink on and then it goes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, you probably have a short on that circut.

Isn't there an AC relay too? Try pulling that and replace the fuse. Could just be a bad relay.

It could also be the wiring to the compressor, of the second (passenger side) fan behind the radiator.

If you have already tried Chris's (Legion) advice, and it still blows the fuse, check the impedence on the clutch coil. More than likely it is at a dead short. If this is the case, then the A/C clutch needs to be replaced. Check with "944ecology" to see if he has any available (great guy btw). It's not too to tough to replace with the right tools (usually availble from your "flaps") though it can be a PITA to get around the radiator fan guard!!

I tried the relay with no luck I unplugged the coil wire and cooling fan plug with same results. I ohmed the wires out going to the coil plug from the pass side cooling fan. One ohmed at .1 and the other was 1.5M. I don't have any schematics but I would think both shouldn't have a resistance on the coil plug right? I also ohmed the wire from the coil plug to the fuse and it is 45.5 Looks like I get to start chasing wires

I also have a 87 944 S and have the same problem, lucky for me summer is over. I was going to replace the relay, if I could find a good used one.

Do you just cut the plastic covering that the wires run through off? I don't see any splits down it. Thanks

Boz, did you ever figure this out? I have a 944S that does the same thing.
