Air Conditioning Fuse Problems
I have a '87 944S and whenever i turn my air conditioning on, the fuse will blow. The air is on the same fuse as the heat, but when i turn on the heat, the fuse wont blow. I'm stuck!?!
Are there any common electrical problems i should check for? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks |
I had a similar problem. Stan Kolen advised cleaning all the contacts to include the fuses, relay (inside and out), plus battery terminals and grounds. This fixed my problem. My fuse would not blow immediately but would go after about an hour.
I would see what I considered to be an abnormal drop in volt meter when AC was switched on. You might have a dead short somewhere from the way it sounds (because your fuse blows immediately). My understanding is that there is a capacitor associated with the compressor clutch. If it is shorted out, the fuse would blow. A wrench told me this. Nitrous,
I had something similar happen to me. There is a weird switch on the power steering pump. Supposedly it senses the rpm's and raises it when you turn the heat/ac on. I think this switch is only on the "S" models. Pull the little boot on the p/s pump and take a look at the switch, this may be your problem. It was immediately evident that mine was toasted. Rob-O |
