Does any one know what type of sealant is used on the intake manifold gaskets (944T)?
I've read that you shouldn't use sealant on any gaskets. However, I recall sealant being used on the intake manifold gaskets. Also, there was definitely remains of some type of sealant when I pulled the manifold off. Thoughts? Ideas? TIA, Jon ------------------ '87 944 Turbo |

ahhhh, don't say that, I just put my block and everything back to gather and don't use a sealant on anything.

I don't think you need a sealent at all on the intake. I took mine off to repair a big vacumn hose leak under it and put it back with the same gasket and no vacumn leak or problem. These are machined surfaces and as long as they are clean and smooth surfaces and torqued correctly there should be no problem. If you are concerned put a extremely lite coating of blue silicone on the surfaces. I mean real lite just a skim with your finger, it won't hurt anything but I really don't think you need it! After it is back together start the engine and at idle spay some starting fluid around where the intake bolts to the head and if the idle increases you have a vacumn leak.

Just replaced mine and did not use sealent. Service manual does not call for it. It just has to be evenly torqued, and a new set of gaskets are always good. The gaskets cost me about $5.

Thanks! I have new gaskets, so I'm going to go with them as is.
