I replaced my cat on my na86 (200,000miles) with a straight pipe. More torque and better acceleration but sounds alfull. Like a machine gun at certain RPM's. cruising or idle is not much different. What can I do to get a nice sweet Porsche sound without putting the cat back on? Like I say not much loader but that alful machine gun sound on acceleration!I am thinking about putting a straight through glasspac (chery bomb some call them) in place of the straight pipe. thanks guys for any help!

I replaces the stock muffler with a Bursch unit. I think it sounds great - deeper sound, louder, and better response.

Did you put a resignator on along with the test pipe??? If not, that may have helped with that sound. As with any car, cutting tha cat off will help it breathe, but you need to control the sound or else you get that terrible noise that people laugh at as you put the pedal to the metal! Hope you get that fixed bud! Ciao

I would suggest you cut out the section of straight pipe and weld in a resonator (cherry bomb). Since it is a straight through design, it will give you all the benefits of free flow exhaust but will still control the noise level. It will still be a little bit louder than when you had the cat on though.
Shop around at your local muffler shops for straight through resonators. There is a size that is almost the same length as the cat. |
