how to clean fuel strainer?
i took the fuel strainer out of the bottom of my gas tank, and the fuel is like syrup coated onto it. No wonder the past 2 fuel pumps burned up, it was probably from lack of gas!!! What would be a good solution to clean that thing with? would carb cleaner do it?

Try some gas and an old toothbrush.

gas won't eat it off, because the strainer is clogged with a syrup like form of gas!!

Trust me on this one, I've freed up tank senders from cars that have had the same gas in their tank for 70 years using a toothbrush and gas. If you want some more ooomph, feel free to pay $30/gallon for carb cleaner. And that syrupy gas is generally referred to as shellac. If you have it in your tank components, you should really clean and reseal the tank with a good pro quality sealant, like the ones marketed by POR.

Sounds like some one sugar cube'd the gas tank. Try boiling water.
