egr valve cleaning?

any ideas on what to clean an EGR valve with?

What's a good solvent for all the gunk? Mineral spirits, kerosene, gas, nathpa, paint thinner, turpintine?

Mine is completely clogged. I picked a lot of crap out of it and got it opened up a little. But the gunk inside is very resilient.

I've tried soaking on degreaser, carb cleaner spray, solovents. But whatever it is that goes through the valve has built up real good and solid.

I think that carb cleaner may have destroyed what was left of it, mine had a rubber diaphram that would be eaten by carb cleaner. I took out my EGR valve and am running without it.

carb cleaner destroys rubber? that's a little troubling considering all the rubber hoses and plastic parts under the hood.

Most of the really volitile spray cleaners like Brakleen and others really eat it up. I only use them when the part is out of the car or I can mask stuff with paper. I tried electrical tape once and it ate that too.

suprisingly, a lot of cleaners will dissolve the guts of parts, but most parts are impervious to gasoline. I usually try a gasoline soak and penetrating oil, doesnt get that squeaky clean carb cleaner effect, but a lot safer.
