Lightbulb Northeast (CT/MA/NJ) Timing Belt Party ???

As you've probably seen, esanmiguel and SoCal and a few others had a Southern California timing belt replacement party. This sounds like a great idea, considering that I'm sure many of us don't have the expertise or tools to do this ourselves, but would rather not pay a mechanic to do it.

I think we should have one of these in the MA/CT/NJ area some time soon... it would give us a chance to meet other Pelicanheads, learn valuable mechanical skills, and just stand around and look at multiple 944s clogging up someone's driveway

any takers?

Here's the SoCali thread for inspiration:

I don't need to change my belt, i did so less than 1K ago, but i'd be willing to come give other people a hand. I actually bought the 9201 tool a few months ago (when i changed my belt) so i can bring that, as long as someone else brings the beer.

I am flying out to Springfeild MA for work on the 4th- 6th. Can you guys recommend any good resturants and sight seeing adventures? i have thought about driving to Boston or checking out New Haven. I have never been in the area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Guys,

Sounds like a great idea, but a little far for me to travel...

Would suggest you also check your Cam Chain and Tensioner as well... I will be doing mine every service now... after my chain broke and it trash the whole head of my S2..

Worth a look at the same time..

Name a date. We can do it at my house, I have a 2 car garage. My '83 needs belts and someone to help me get it running! I'm all for it. Let me know.

speedracing - avoid New Haven like it's the plague! It has Yale... and that's about it! seriously, it's kind of a pit.

Boston, however, is wonderful. I can recommend a number of restaurants in the area.

-----

Back on the subject, it looks like CT944's place might be a great spot - after all, he has the only 944 that doesn't run!

so far it would be CT944, MikeCT, Mike944, Tshabit, Cooler and whoever else finds this post before then. I have wednesday nights and fridays off, and I would be able to get a different day off if neither of those work. Just give me a week's notice or so (to order the part and get the day off)

This sounds like it will be a good time.

I am thinking about a Saturday or Sunday....but can get any other day off if not convenient for everyone else. I am free next weekend and I think the weekend after as well. The sooner the better! How about everyone else?

This weekend is bad for me - if it matters - I don't want to stop the meeting just because of me... But I would love to come down.
Actually, come to think of it, I have a conference next weekend - so I'd be out for the next two weekends.
Good idea for a meeting though!

Hey there! I was at the Esanmiguel meet, and will be in the big city on the weekend of the 15th-16th. There is a NJ Rennlist get-together on the 15th, but I could probably make both!

Only downside is that I'll be in a Rental Hertz.

Keep us all posted.

So where did you guys want to do this? My house is pretty central CT - actually further East and South - but 45min from Providence, 1.5hours from Boston, and ~1.5hours from the furthest west point in CT.
I could host, but I've only got an itsy bitsy one car garage and a small apartment with more animals than people in it!
(Plus, the wife would probably kill me for it!)
I think that I could do the 15th.

i think CT944's place is it, because his car needs the belt change and he cannot drive his car

Sounds good. I live on a quiet road, with plenty of room in case alot of cars show up.

I might be able to make a guest appearance. Everyone should know that I am mechanically declined, but I can hold a flashlight and provide moral support if needed.
