Question 1985 944 Valve Cover Gasket

I recently purchased my first 944 (I have previously owned about 15 914s). My 944 is the early 1985 model and is normally aspirated. One of the few problems it has is a leaky valve cover gasket which causes the car to smoke during the first 15-minutes after star-up. Does anyone know how to change the gasket? Which of the allen bolts need on the cover need to be removed? Do you need a torque wrench? Any help would be appreciated.

Go to this site for instructions (http://porsche-944-garage.tripod.com/) or buy your self a Haynes manual.

The use of a torque wrench is a good idea!

I bought the Haynes. It is very inadequate for the 944 and doesn't even discuss valve cover removal. All it talks about is removal of the entire cam assembly.

Thanks for the lead on the website.

thats because the 944 does not have a valve cover. What it does have is a cam tower. You must remove that, the cam tower, to fix your leak.
