I just bought a few MOMO parts for my '88 944. I have a question about the Shift Knob. Is there anything i have to do the the shift boot? I havent got the knob yet but its on its way. and i was wondering if ihave to get a replacment boot. If anyone has any experiance with this or any tips it would be great. Thanks

The Momo shift knob will not fit the stock 944 shifter. The shifter is made from a piece of roughly 1/4" thick flat steel bar. The round hole in the Momo knob will not fit on the flat bar.
What I did was buy an adaptor from Automotion. It is very simple, but I couldn't have made one myself without a mill and/or lathe. I beleive it is $15. I used the stock shift boot, but had to cut the leather. I cut the top of the leather where the knob is attached. Of course after you cut it, there is a gigantic hole in the top of the shift boot. I just hand-sewed the seam along the edge, tapering it to the top of the shift boot. I'm not usually into sewing, but this wasn't that hard. After the top was sewed, pulled the shift boot up the shift knob as far as it would go with the new knob on. Then, I used electrical tape and wrapped the inside of the leather (the suede-like side) to the shifter. Then pull the shifter down, and re-install it at the base. Mine looks pretty good. I got the Momo Cobra with Leather. What are you getting? Kaos 1985/2 Black |
