It was a great 1000k trip!
Hi, all,
Took the '44 all the way to Tuscon and back with 0 problems and I averaged about 30 mpg! I wasn't trying to save gas, either, I passed quite a few SUVs along the way. Took her up to 110 ( while passing in Indian country ) and cruised along I 40 at 85. The best part was going through the Salt River Canyon (very twisty road), the car corners better than anything I've ever driven! It did use about 1/2 quart of oil. I found out from Carfax that this car has had only 30k miles on it in the last 10 years, so I suspect it sat around for a while in somebody's yard. I probably won't be driving the car much over the winter( you gotta have 4wd where I live) so I'm going to park her in the garage and do some maintenance projects to get ready for next spring. Any suggestions? What a great car! Steve

Good for you! I love taking my car on trips. Good to hear that you had no problems.
I drive my '44 in the winter, but a car that nice should be garaged. Props!

Ya gotta love these cars! I drive mine as much as possible, I don't store mine either. It doesn't snow as much in the city as it does by you.
Check out the STORAGE thread.

These things get great mileage. 20+ yr old technology and I do about 30mpg, better than the wife's Altima......
There's a lot to be said for light weight and aerodynamics. Jon

Sounds like a fun drive. I averaged 33mpg on my trip from San Antonio, TX to Seattle.
For maintenance... I'd just look into the regular stuff like the condition of rubber parts, seals, belts, ... |
