Question Fuel guage sender

Exactly where is this located on a early 85? I pulled back the carpet around the gas filler area but can't locate it. Is it more toward the center?
I have a leak at the top of the tank and assume that the gasket for the fuel gage sender would be the prime suspect.

Hi it might be a hose leaking, the sender is on the flat part of the trunk floor, pull up the carpet and look for a round cover remove it and you will find the top of the sender, however the most probable place for the leak is the hose that connects the gas filler to the tank..... Stan

OK - will continue to look in the morning.

I checked pretty carefully around the filler tube but the leak appears to be coming more from the center part of the tank. I really can't see the top of the tank itself, but when I feel around between the trunk panel and the top of the tank, the foam feels wet but the foam around the filler tube itself seems OK.

(PS - do you know if the foam is important? I had to tear it apart to inspect the joint where the filler tube enters the tank.)
