Post Out of curiosity, how much HP does the A/C steal..?

I read earlier in another post that the A/C on our cars steals some performance. I was wondering what is a good aproximation of that loss? I have an 84' n/a and was curious.

Thanks!

-Tony

Hell screw AC. I yanked mine and have a free pulley spot. And i feel a little more torque in the car at low end. For those of you looking to supercharge 944s and you have no AC or removed it, you have a spot to belt drive the compressor now if you have a roots, twinscrew or centrifugal.

I was thinking more like the airbox area, but I'll consider the AC compressor's spot if I ever decide to get rid of AC, thanks for the idea.

You can't put your supercharger in the A/C slot. You need an oil return to the pan, and that means that your supercharger needs to be at least above the oil pan line.

It doesn't necessarily have to be where the AC was at. But it helps to have that free pulley there. A belt driven Vortec would work good but not the best like a roots or twinscrew...I guess we all got a lot of work ahead of us..

Personally, I'm damn happy to have ICE COLD air blowing on me, keeping my ass from sweating like hell and sticking to the seat. If it costs me 10, 20...even 50 horsepower--it's worth it. If it weren't, I be driving a formula 1 with the interior completely stripped instead of my little 150hp four-banger with leather seats.

'Course, that's just me. No complaints here.
