My driver side window switch, will not roll down the passenger side window, but the passenger side switch works fine. Is there something I'm missing here, I figured if the driver side one dosn't work it would break connection and the pass side wouldn't work either. How can I fix this? thx

Pull your driver's side door panel and check the switches and connectors for corrosion or loose plugs.

I've had this same problem before. Believe it, or not, it's probably the passenger side switch is bad. Without getting into a long explanation (like i usually do) it has three sets of contacts in it. one set for up, one set for down, and one set to allow the other side switch to operate.
To figure it out, pull both switches out of the driver's side door panel. (i assume the switch for driver's side window works, right?) unplug, and plug the switch for the driver's side window into the plug for the passenger side window. (they are right next to each other, and interchangable) If it works now, it's the switch on the driver's side of the car, if it still doesn't work, it's the passenger side switch. The bad switch CAN be cleaned, and put back into service, but be extremely carefull taking it apart, and putting it bach together. There are a few little springs, and tiny ball bearings, and contacts that MUST go back in the exact same way they came out. Use a pink pencil eraser to clean the contacts, andput a little grease on them when you are finished. Well, there it is, you guys knew i couldn't explain anything in less than three paragraphs. From my experience, I found that if one of the two passenger switches goes bad, then neither will work. Try swapping your drivers side switch, as suggested, to find the bad switch.

A tip I learned after ALL my window switches quit working (several times), may only apply to pre 85/2. Makes it a two minute job.
If you press the top of the switch in you will see a ~1/2" slot on the bottom of the toggle. Insert a small (1/4") screwdriver in the slot at a slight upward angle. This will depress the metal tab (or get between the panel and the tab) and you can pop it right out without removing the door panel. |

I've done this quite a few times now, and it is specifically the driver's side switch to the passenger side window that keeps oxidizing ... I just pry the button out, clean the contact with a small nail file, then put it back together, and voila ...
Make sure your ignition is off when you put things back together, I've blown many a fuse because of that ... E |
