Your voltage regulator is not working properly.... not sure where it is on that model.... it could be separate or attached to the alternator.

GOod luck

thanx for the reply. i figured it would be the voltage regulator as well. i believe its is built in the alternator. where else can i look? is there a regulator or resistor on the same wiring path?

...in the earlier Accords the regulator, I believe was in the alternator.

I can;t remember if it is a serviceable part or not (I would think it is)..... Check to see how much the regulator costs..... it depends on models.... on some cars I have bought for it has been as low as $10 bucks.....

You should be able to open the alternator and get at it..... WHat you have to becarefull if a car has been running in this situation for a while you can ruin your battery (cooked)..... take the battery out... trickle charge it.. make sure it holds charge, replace your regulator and you should be fine.

If the Accord is anything like my RX7, then the voltage regulator is built into the alternator. For the average person, it would be way cheaper and easier to buy a new or rebuilt alternator. In my car, the part alone, even if you could get it (which you couldn't normally), would have been worth close to the price of the alternator.

Also, if a new alternator is, say, $170 and a rebuilt one $130... it's better to go with the new one, with the longer warranty, IMHO

One more thing... tell your friend to get it fixed fast, before he blows the headlights (and anything else in the car). This is what happened to me last year, and I only drove the Mazda for about 3 miles when it was overcharging.
