Cabriolet top electrics help needed

HI Guy's

ok, as standard I can not put the top up or down with the engine running (must be in pos.1)

As my car is (good weather)w/end only I need to start her up (to get a charge in the battery , switch her off and then put the top down.

I'd like to fix her so I can put the top up or down with engine running. (Just like the Boxsters).

I've been told it's a question of routing the live feed from pos.1 to the pos.2 of the ignition.

Anyone now exactly how to do this or have part of an electric diagram.

cheers in advance

Don't know about the wiring as have never tried it but you should not be running the engine to charge the battery. Use a battery maintainer, about $40.00 anywhere.

The tech book for cab roof information is still available from your Porsche dealer.

My top will not go down now. When I push the button forwards the windows go down. But when I push it back the top does not move. I'm guessing the power to the switch is good, unless there are two power leeds to the switch. Could there be a fuse I'm missing. Someone please help.

Hi ya,
There should be a fuse in the fusebox, pretty sure its labeled.

The top wont just push back, don't attempt it you'll damage it.

In the passenger side panels there looks like a small round cover which pops out.

In your toolkit you'll have what looks like a box spanner and a rod. Insert the rod through the box spanner and put the spanner into the panel, this will fit over a nut, undo this a few turns (not completely!!) this will free the hood so you can maually open and close it.

If you can't find the bolt, if you remove the panal it's obvious were it is.

You could check the motor by splashing a 12v supply to the motor, should whirr back into life.

Ohh and a little hint. TRY and loosen the bolts with the hood closed and locked. and tighten it with the hood again with the hood closed, other wise you have problems trying to synch the motor opening and closing with the pos'n of the roof.

Ok, I have Gremlins. I just tried the top when I went to lunch and it wend down. Didn't change anything from the other 7 times it did not go down. Maybe I have a short somewhere.
Thanks,
John

those kinda gremlins are usually relays that are on their way out....

Hold on there...I don't mean to be insulting but are you "popping" the top loose after you undo the latches? There is an interlock that will not allow the top motors to work if the top latches are still "engaged but unlatched".

That could explain your sporadic operation. If that is not it I would check the limit switches behing the rear side panel. They are located on the motors on both sides. If they are not adjusted properly your top motor will not function correctly. If they are loose it could explain the sporadic operation. IHTH, Max

yeah the interlock is one.

you've also got to make sure the 2 silver pins are def. not in contact with the slots

,

true good point
