Post How to gut a non existant CAT

Ok, the 944 had a bit of exaust leak where the pipe connected from the headers so I decided to gut the cat while I was under there messing with everything. I dropped the pipe in 30 min or so only to find the PO "my grandfather" had already gutted the thing. I was shocked/pissed shocked cause the car came from california and pissed because I added 20 min to my overall time. But now I have something for everyone to wrap there minds around.

After replacing the gaskets and cranking her up it still sounded like the car had a leak either comming from around the cat area or the bottom of the headers. I had my brother plug up the exaust pipe with a rag and all the noise went away only the injectors could be herd. The leak can only be herd duiring heavy acceleration and it's noticable when pulled up next to someone. the echo comming from the "leak". Any ides on this?

Ven-

Are your headers cracked? That can make the sound and another place to look is under the heat shield on the collector. Hope this helps
