stupid nut at front of fuel rail
I dunno who the hell tightened it before me, but it sure as hell isn't at 17ft/lbs!!! I can't get this thing off! Its especially hard because the fuel rail isn't attached to anything. I tried some WD40. No luck. Suggestions? Black magic options?

Use two wrenches, one on the fuel rail, the other on the nut. Unless you really need to, leave it alone. If it's that tight the thread may be damaged.

OK- I was scared to put a wrench on the rail. I'm not a strong guy (hey, I'm honest) but even so if it doesn't come off after that, I'm not gonna go crazy. Hopefully when I pull the injectors the gas will not go too far.
Thanks again! |

now that I think about it- why wouldn't you want to loosen that bolt while the fuel rail is bolted into place?

Wait ...what is the nut holding on? And why do you need it out?

It's so the fuel pressure can be checked. Unless you are checking the fuel pressure don't undo it.

OK- I gave up on it. I just pulled the first injector, and poured the gas out of there. I'll make a big post at some point to show my big stupid project, that takes normal people about an hour.

Mine was tight. I used an impact wrench on it at low ft-lb setting just to get it started. An impact wrench does not apply a bending moment to the rail as a regular wrench does. It only applies a torque. A tee handle wrench does the same thing. Forces cancel out so there is no bending moment. Only torque is applied. That is one reason taps have tee handle drivers. The unbalanced force combines with the torque to increase the stress in the fastener or whatever it is attached to. Well, I've rattled on long enough.

Rammstein,
mine was the same, it really needs 2 people, one to hole one spanner the other to push against with the other, be carefull, not to snap. also, sometimes gently jarring with a hammer helps. when retightening,DONT overtigthen it. another hint, to help de-preasurize the system. run the engine, then pull the fuel filter fuse, let the engine stall. and bosh, you should not loose too much petrol
