How to make a reliable 924S
Can everyone chime in on this one...
I have done the basics but since this is my ONLY daily car I want to keep it reliable for long trips for business until I can upgrade to a newer car... I have replaced: 1.belts and rollers 2.hoses 3.clutch, bearings and slave 4.check brakes regularly 5.new struts 6.change oil frequently I was wondering how many miles are let on??? 1. fuel pump 2. radiator 3. everything else I may have missed The car curretly has 100,000 miles and runs near flawlessly... I just need to be sure it stays that way!!! Aaron |
Did you change water pump? If not, it's coming. It could last up to 150k, but you need to cross your finger.
Per what you have done, and if you don't race, the car should have another 80k to 100k at least with tb change. |
Agree with Eugene on the water pump.
Other possibles... If there is oil on the right front sway bar bushing, you should do the balance shaft and camshaft seal replacement on the front. It would be good to do when you do the water pump. Also, motor mounts. Are you still on the original clutch? |
Waterpump was changed by the PO just before purchasing the car last year, and the clutch by me...
Keep sending the suggestions... |
No suggestions, just keep driving your car. It should be a trouble-free car for quite awhile.

The 924S may be the most reliable Porsche ever built. It is completely understressed (NA and lighter than 944). Mine with 214k now has been nothing but reliable over the past 2 years. It hits 100 mph almost every day also. I've managed to chew through a 944S and 951 during the time I've owned the 924S.
My advice - keep it cheap. They're not worth much so its not worth pouring your savings into the car to get everything perfect. Just keep the belts changed every 30-60k (im doing 60k) and drive! Erick |
