(urgent) How do I grease my CV joint???
 

Hi there!
Today I finally received a brand new driveaxle but the boots aren't greased at all. Is there a way to insert the grease into them without dislodging it from the boot colar from the CV joint?

Hey, Yan the boots aren't greased? Are the actual joints? You need to dislodge the boot anyway. It's easy, just use a punch to keep the holes aligned and take the boot down, and grease the unders side of the joint and pack some grease into the boot. Start right away, I did this with my dad, we rebuilt the CV Joints, it took some time, but the greasing part is fun fun =)

also, use your pinky to work it into creveses and then work the joint in all ways checking making sure it's greased well. Do you have a procedure for the CV Joints installation?

Craig: thanks, I greased everything. The boots were already greased but I added some to make sure that everything was ok. I didn't really read the procedures, I installed the bolts on the side of the wheel and then I adjusted the joint coming out of the transaxle to match the bolts on the side of the transmission. That's it...

Re-torque the bolts after you have run the car for awhile. I don't know exactly why it is but those bolts will back out and leave you sitting without an axle to the wheel.

People are reluctant to use locktite on the bolts for another reason I don't know, but I do know many folks will drill the heads and safety wire.

This is a real problem area so take care.
