I often read about "cheap" 931 here

Do they really come so cheap in the States???
In sweden, you can get a 924 almost thrown after you for free, but a 931 its a complete other picture.
OK, if its ruined, shore its cheap, but otherwise they are starting to get more and more expencive over here.
Remember, only ~13000 where manufactured and shore, they are not VERY fast, but quite much faster then a 944N/A.

So, my question, why are they so cheap in the States?
I have read $1000-1500. THATS CHEAP, for me anyway!

Because the maintenance is so expensive, as are parts. The 924 in turbo trim is a good deal more complicated than the normal 924 (or so I hear) and general maintenance eventually costs more than the car.

Word. My mechanic has had one rotting in his lot for over 2 years as a conversation piece. Says it's simply not worth fixing, even with free labor, because of parts prices.

We also don't have your socialist confiscatory tax structure. What is "cheap" here would be taxed into oblivion there.

I would think the tax structure would probably play a larger role on a new porsche....

A $1k-1500 931 probably won't make it from the purchaser's house to yours. That is cheap! ~$3k is typical if it is a decent driveable example. Maintainance is less than the recurring 944 belt changes/etc. and they go for about the same price as a 944na. No doubt that they are more complicated than a 924na.

I love mine, the turbo gets addictive because its boost is sudden and powerfull. Maintenance hasnt been that bad for me yet, 1 brake line burst, and the turbo has a bad oil leak (into turbo line, not the turbo itself) to the point that if i use the turbo i get smoke out of the back of the car (at least the smoke isnt in the eng. compartment due to the naca duct) but thats getting fixed soon. The handling is superb just as long as you keep the front tire pressures up (no power steering). I think that the suggested price for these ($5500) is worth the money, even if you have slight problems. Because in the end there is two important things,..first being the fact that it is a classic porsche, and the second being that it is a 931, not just the same ol' run of the mill 944.

I new 911 Turbo in Sweden is about, ~ $150.000, of course, depending on the strength of the Swedish currancy!
