THUMP when when I brake
First probmlem on the 951 that I have not been able to figure out. When I brake hard, like stoping late for a yellow light, I get one subtle "thump" that comes from under the car, passenger side middle section somewhere. At first I though it was the spar tire being loose, but it was not. Anyone had this before?

My first guess when you say you have a brake noise is to check the calipers, make sure they are mounted correctly and the pads are ok and inserted properly. Thumping would be made when it reached the end of the travel for being loose... i have an NA so i know they are alittle different, can't say exactly what to look for. The second guess would be suspension bushings, worn or torn so that there is too much play, thumping when it can't slip any more.

Caliper springs? Did my friend's brakes the other week. He also complained about a single thump.Found a broken wish bone type of spring. Don't know yet if that's culprit.
So, before inpecting your hardware, lift that suspect wheel off the ground, grab it at the 3 & 9 o'clock and feel for looseness (steering) then try the 12 and 6 o'clock position (wheel bearing). Put a 3 foot 2x4 lever under the wheel and check for looseness (ball joints).I've even gotten on the bumper and jounced some cars (rubber bushings). Where I used to work, we paid for our mistakes. Easiest thing to try is going to the car wash and spraying out the calipers really good to get the dust out of them. I thought i had a cv axle going out and my mechanic told me do this and it fixed the noise.
