How much $ to rebuild?
 
to rebuild a N/A and turbo. ill do the labor part...

rebuild would include (if the have them)

upgraded internals and turbo (intercooler?)

bigger cam (Dohc for turbo?)

and everything else that would need it

possible some head work as well if its worth it $ wise.



cost? level of complecation? sites to look for parts (internals turbos ect...


oh and is the block strong? strong enough for a few mods and heavy use?

from what ive heard ppl talking about, itd be cheaper to just buy a porsche 944 turbo than to turbo an n/a

i ve heard that too... i mean rebuld a na or rebuild a turbo. not turn NA to a turbo (i dont wanna get yelled at :))

The block is strong enough and the cost of doing it will probably be from 3k all the way up to 20k. It depends on what you want to do. You cant put dual cams on the single cam cars. And it is very complicated.

what ones do that might have been put in one? i think i saw pics, not sure though

If you do the work... (hoses, rings, bearings, waterpumps, odds and ends etc..etc..) You can go cheaper.... but it depends how far you want to go... THIS IS JUST TO MAKE IT STOCK

~1000 in parts to rebuild the NA properly ....
~1500 in parts for the turbo......

what one if either is turbo (s ans s2)?

does that include internals? and a turbo? cam?

how about a mildly modded (new turbo, bigger cam, ect...)?

Cn you put a Dohc engine in a NA or turbo car? (complete newb...)


and what about dificulty?

If you are looking at the turbo model....

The price above is to freshen up the engine ..........

Mods....

1. Chip set (best bang for your buck).. best deal if the car is stock (~$3-400)

- A worked over head can cost you 500-800 (I would do this last) The turbo head can flow well up to 350rwhp)
- aluminum flywheel 600
- KEP pressure plate 600
- turbo cup disc 300
- tial wastegate 3-450
- boost controllers (50-500) manual or electronic...many choices
- 3" cat back (250-600)
- 3" test pipe (400-800)
- SFR header (1000-2000) A luxury in my opinion

and the list goes on and on..............
many fun options. :)

Then you can start looking at the suspension, braking etc........... $$$$$$ great way to spend your money...

... parts for these engines are incredibly expensive... $1000 for an intake? $1000 for headers...


how many HP stock? maybe that would be enough till i save for a V8 :)

Bottom line - these cars are expensive to maintain and even more expensive if you want to build them for racing. If you, like your name says, "need cash" and are looking to build a quality fast car (especially a 951) on a budget - you won't (but good luck trying).

You're going to get what you pay for. If you skimp on a turbo, stronger bottom end, quality machined heads, suspension, or tires (or any other of the race compnents that matter) you'll end up eating it and getting a better one anyhow. Just my $0.02 but my motto is "do it once, do it right". Otherwise you end up paying 3 times as much over the long run in terms of money and time to end up with what you could have had in the first place.

My advice would be to save your $$$, get a car that's solid and totally rebuild the engine from the ground up for racing if that's what you want: block/crank/bearings first, then cam, heads, etc. THEN work on transmission, then suspension etc. Don't do the "slap on" approach - you'll regret it! Rather than try to mickey-mouse it with a bunch of add-on junk that's ultimately going to do more to hurt it than help it, do yourself a favor and do it right. . .
