(Yet more) timing belt questions-retrofit tensioner ?
I am going to have my belts done in the next few months. My car is a 1984 944 soooooo can I have(my mechanic)retofit the auto tensioner that was on the post 1986 cars?
|
No the block is different.

Search the archives, someone here has done it already. If I remember the post correctly, he had to tapp the location where the auto tensioner should go, but after tapping the plate it fit great!

Though a useful upgrade, it does not cancel out the need for a regular belt tension or having to use the tool to install/tension it properly.
risking a $1200 valve job just isn't worth it in my opinion AFJuvat |
I did it to an 86 block. I am not sure if the earlier block has the castings. You could always check.
