On a stock 85 (early) NA 944, what is the most accessible place where I can remove the power from the power antenna?
The antenna relay seems to be stuck and constantly on, draining my battery. I just want to disconnect the power. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

The power comes from the radio..
Check the wiring close to the fuse box, you might find a connector for the antenna there. It depends if it's stock or aftermarket. Follow the wiring from the antenna to find easiest disconnect point. |

Are you sure that the radio directly powers the antenna?
I have already disconnected the power antenna wire at the (after market) radio but the antenna still runs. So I assumed that the wire from the radio is a relay signal and the antenna gets its motor power directly from the fuse box or whatever. |

Should have been more accurate, sorry.
The radio on/off switch sends the signal to the operating relay. If the antenna still works then the relay is wired from the ignition feed, so when you turn the key, the antenna raises. Are you sure the antenna is drawing the current? How did you diagnose this? |

I can actually hear the antenna motor running all the time, ignition on or off thus draining the battery. (The antenna itself doesn't work anymore, of course).
The only way to stop it is to pull the fuse. But the fuse also powers the radiator fan and a few other things, I suspect. So I just want to get at the power to the antenna itself. (I also want to avoid tracing the wiring from the antenna end if possible - I suspect I have to remove the tire and charcoal cannister , etc). |

Look for a relay that powers the antenna.
As it's an aftermarket relay, look round by the fuse box. Other option is to trace the wiring from the fuse box and disconnect or cut the wire. Good luck. Don't you admire radio installers? |
