944 smell
occasionally and i mean this becuase its weird becuase it doesnt happen all the time, my 87 944 (94kmiles) will start to smell as though it is burning oil or gas. i also go through up to a quart of oil a week sometimes. I just had a lot of work done to it a couple thousand miles and cannot understand whats going on. Does anyone have any possible ideas on where my problem could be??? thanks alot

what kind of work has been done to your recently? The smell could be related to the repair work. Even somthing as minor as a oil filter change not getting cleaned up could be the root cause.
Anything to do with oil things like the oil cooler seals, cam tower seals etc. Any motor mount work etc. The smell is probable because some oil is leaking down onto the exhaust and burning off when you run the car and get it up to temperature. My car was getting an oil smell on occasion and it was traced to teh cam tower gasket at to back left corner. The gasket had not been installed very well during a service and had slipped out a bit causing oil to, after running, collect and drip down onto the exhaust and lower pan. Does your car still have it's lower air pan installed? |
