Torque Tube

My 951 is vibrating, especially when I shift out of 2nd and 3rd. A mechanic told me that it was a bad Torque Tube. I have had the motor mounts replaced it the last 3000 miles.

He quoted me $3300 ($2200 for the part, $1100 for the labor) which seems pretty nuts.

What do you guys think about this diagnosis and price?

Mace,
When the torque went bad on wife's 924t , it was noticleble in ant gear at about 3000rpm. I think Porsche charges about $1600-2000 for a new or rebuilt torque tube. A used can be bought for around $400.

It is a lot of work to put one in since the rear suspension has to be dropp4d.

Drew1 and Rollins -

Thanks for your response! I have located a couple of sources for a rebuilt tube...

I thought I might wait awhile and replace the clutch at the same time. Any thoughts on what the possible problems might be in waiting?

Thanks -
