I was behind two celica gt's the other day.
They have a really neat 3rd brake light that I think would look good on the 944. It looks as though it might fit as well. Anyone have this thought...... Dare I say...Anyone have an opinion? http://www.maxspeed.it/manifestazioni/maxituning/images/Toyota.Celica.4.jpg ( I haven't been flamed in a long time )

I have the "upgrade" 3rd brake light but I am not all that in love with it.
I really like the 3rd light "bar" that performance sells for the 911 but at over $250 I cannot see modifying that for the 944

It seems like a very subtle light. My upgraded one is very big and clunky looking IMO.
It seems as though it might fit with very little mod. I guess I will get a hold of one at the local parts yard or dealer and see if the shape fits our cars or not. Won't really know till I see it sitting up there.

when i was over in scotland last year, i picked up a nice 3rd brake light kit, and it looks really nice, and stands out a mile ! a very worthwhile investment. what i would really like to do, is to machine from under the rubber tail spoiler, and insert a small set of lights, that would light up where it says "porsche" on the rear edge. now that would be sweet. {ok, maybe a little ricer} but who else would have that?
bob.

I thought of trying to go into the wing but that rubber looks a bit iffy to me. Not to mention that it probably needs a good bit of structural integrity.
Just above the rear glass seems like a very logical spot.

Well if someone had a extra wing, and milled it out so that you could fight a light in there... Only problems are How would you hide the wires?? how would you cut out the Porsche letters from the wing, seems kinda hard, Maybe if it was molded... Or maybe mill the hole thing out and make a black metal insert with PORSCHEcsut from it. SOOO MANY IDEAS, I do have a extra 944 rear wing maybe I will play with this idea

i bet if you insert some LEDs in the wing after cutting out "PORSCHE" that in extreme temperatures or movement that the wing would start splitting there. just my .02

What if you figured out a way to get the actual letters to light instead...
That would be cool

FLA - nothing really wrong with the JC whitney one but not all that snazzy. If I do this you can buy my old porsche one dirt cheap.
I am going to do a "late cell phone antenna" type of radio antenna from the top so the wiring holes will already be there. (There is a pic in the factory mans of a "cell phone installation" for the lates) The celica gt third is the only one I have seen that I think will really fit on the exterior and look good. (seems to have the right contour). Now - My great grandfather also says(40 years as an electrical contractor) that you can drill glass by making a reservoir out of putty, putting oil in it, and using a carbide tip to drill the perfect hole. Do it that way and I could use the existing 3rd brake wiring. BTW - dont forget to center punch it first....

Maybe some kinda red neon, You can flame me for this but it would be kinda cool, if the Porsche lettters had a red neon glow to them.... I was thinking about painting mine with a small paint brush but I dont know how well the paint will hold on the rubber.
