german strut tower brace for 924/944!!!

hello,

a while ago i mentioned that there was a strut tower brace that fits 924s and 944s that is made in germany. it is aluminum and it is strong, and it's MUCH less than the ones over here.

here's the info on it, but i can't find a place that will import them to the USA. maybe if we pool our resources together, we can find an importer for these parts for a group buy maybe?

Manufacturer:

Querlenker Streben

part number for 924/944:

012031

price (MSRP):

$188.00 US

ok, now let's see if someone can find who the heck can get these over here!!!!

Hmm.... my friend here at work (Mercedes Benz, USA) travels to the home office in Stuggart frequently. (He's there right now!)

I may be able to email him to see if he's willing to help out. (He's brought over wheels for his X1/9 before, so I think he can help!!!)

Obin: are these Strut tower braces of a "non-triangulated" type? If they are, I will probably get one. (The triangulated braces will bump me out of stock class in my local PCA autocross program!)

Cool. Lemme check with Gunther and maybe we can get an order going.... Or, if Wayne will get them, I'll go through Pelican.

Thanks for the info, Obin.

Hi Obin,
You might want to be more specific about the strut brace.
Querlenker Strebe means strut brace in German.
Maybe you have a pic?
FWIW, on the Cup cars that Asarus and I own, the strut brace is a hefty steel bar that holds the 2 shock towers together, not even the top of the shocks. Does a pretty good job already, and is really a simple setup, provided you're willing to weld the supports on the towers.

Georgek,

WHOOPS! i just realized that i typed the wrong "manufacturer" in. the manufacturer i fonud was "Wiechers Sport". i will scan in a picture of the one i found and post it up as soon as I can.

he wiechers sport part number is 362001. i'm at work right now, but when i get home i will post the pic up from the catalog

i knew Querlenker Streben meant that... and that's reason why NOT to type on pelican parts while you are installing software on another machine

here's their home page:

Geroge K,
What would be the odds of getting a close up picture of your strut brace? I would be very interested in duplicating them. I am sure Porsche put alot more R&R in them for this car than anyone else.

From memory, I'd say about 6X20 mm. It is a solid steel rod, not hollow. It has no flexibility and is quite heavy. It does have surface rust (touches the hood at speed, as it is some honeycomb build that flexes under pressure).
All in all it is quite crude, like all the stuff the factory did on racing cars for details.
