Arrgh Out Of Ideas

IM OUT OF IDEAS GUYS! I went up there and checked everything and the car still wont start. My stepdad said the people at his work can look at it and run a diagnosis of whats wrong? Is this true? Could they find the problem cuz ARGH IM MAD AND SAD AND I MISS PORSCHEY.

how did your "spark" test go?

Rock 03-20-2004 10:47 AM

i didnt get to see, i was the one cranking the car. He said he couldnt see any spark, but he heard a spark sound a few times.

Rock 03-20-2004 10:53 AM

i dont think there was spark

pearldrum 03-20-2004 11:27 AM

Do you have a voltmeter? You could check at the coil.

MrPants 03-20-2004 01:25 PM

did you try spraying starter fluid into the throttle while cranking? if it starts and then dies you have at least some spark.

Rock 03-20-2004 07:40 PM

no i didnt try that yet, im just gonna let the guys see if they can figure it out

Chris_924s 03-25-2004 06:07 AM

coil.

Rot 911 03-25-2004 06:22 AM

Come on Rock, keep with the basics. If you or whomever was looking, didn't see a spark, you need to correct that problem before you go any further.

TCMdocs944 03-25-2004 06:19 PM

Rock,

Do you have the haynes manual yet?

Wolf1 03-25-2004 06:49 PM

Somebody needs to go help this guy................before he burns it.:)

scheistermeiste 03-25-2004 08:23 PM

hehe, seems like he has quite a few problems with his car sometimes, i remember when he got here ad asked how to put a turbo on it hehe

vital-transform 03-25-2004 10:24 PM

check the + and - wires going to the coil!

ae1969 03-25-2004 10:54 PM

SO.... refresh us.

How did the car end up at this point ? Symptoms etc.

Kurt V spelled it out....keep it simple.

......Uhmmm I wouldnt let the the wizards that are going to plug it in and run a diagnostic on it?? Come within a rocks toss of this car...... I dont think they are going to get any error codes on this puppy... hehehe

Troubleshooting no spark is pretty straight forward on these cars..... and thankfully enough the manuals spell it out quite nicely..... but lets start from the beginning.....

There's a DME test manual that's pretty handy. It goes in order of the most likely culprits so that you don't waste time doing symptom-fixing instead of finding the real problem. Roughly in this order:

1. power to the DME from the DME-relay
2. correct waveforms coming from the reference-sensor
3. correct waveforms coming from the speed-sensor
4. +12v on both sides of the coil (use a bare bolt somewhere for ground-reference)
5. +12v on the rearward pin on each injector connector
6. 0v on the forward pin of each injector connector

With these simple tests, you'll most likely find the trouble spot.

Why do I keep replaying Cheech and Chongs "It's the battery" skit?

Trevor 03-26-2004 08:26 AM

He said he was slamming it into fourth and didn't get it into gear and bounced off of the rev limiter, a few miles down the road it stalled, he got it restarted and it stalled about five minutes later. Maybe he messed up the dme when he hit the limiter, could it be as simple as a new relay?

Ahh some additional info. Did he check to see if he bent a couple of valves?

ae1969 03-26-2004 09:26 AM

Was a compression check ever done ?

Gordon Rankin 03-26-2004 11:21 AM

comon' Rock.. We are all dying out here with curiosity.. What happened?
