Removing the plastic shield near firewall??
 

My black plastic cover shield needs to be removed and replaced, how do you remove it? I am talking about the shield under the hood, right below the windshield. Mine is cracked and very fragile.

I bought one a week ago.... 50 U.S from the dealer..........

You have to remove the windshield wipers..... (held by a nut), pull the weatherstripping that runs across the engine bay its holding the plastic down on that side...... it also has 2 sided tape up against the windshield side....

Was that for a new part? I'm probably going to replace mine too - it's shot and it looks like it's been a magnet for crud / rust starting for a while so I'm going to sand that whole area down & POR-15 the entire firewall face to prevent it from getting worse. I think stuff got caught between the lip of the rubber piece and the metal and started to surface rust it. It isn't bad, but I've adopted a "zero tolerance" policy on rust (I know, I hate that term too, but it makes sense here). I think the back firewall would look nice black too, give some contrast to the stuff against it (it's going to be cleaned up / detailed of course).

I am rebuiliding the turbo and I figured I would splurge on the cover.... hehehe

But surprisingly its relatively cheap. You have to reuse the rubber weather stripping on the engine side.

Its relatively cheap from the dealer because its made of VERY cheap plastic. Mine is trashed - it looked like someone took a machine gun to it because there's so many holes. You could literally flick your finger on it and there would be a break.

As a side note, its not good to have a cracked panel there, due to its location. This winter, snow went through the holes/cracks and caused the wiper motor to take forever to thaw out and function. I'm getting mine fixed soon.
